“It’s given me the opportunity to go out in the field and spend time with the sales staff, spend time with the customers and spend time in the contact centres with the service staff and understand how the whole process with regards to relationship management hangs together.”
“You are very much left to get on with dealing with your assignment yourself but if we’ve come into this organisation to be senior leaders, we’ve got to behave like senior leaders. And it’s then going out and working out who you want to speak to and knocking those doors down.”

“Part of my remit is to manage the industrial relations framework as well – keep the relationships moving there. The people are our business at the end of the day. We can have the machinery, the technology and the locations but if you haven’t got the right people in, they’re not motivated, there’s not the right culture, then we’re not delivering.”
“We have a large population of affected individuals that need to be migrated across into the new mail centre. Some of those people will flow through because their jobs are being retained but other people are going to move into new areas and areas where there is new technology involved, so I have to make sure the right people get in to the right jobs.”

“My first project was in Royal Mail Tracked, which is one of our products for the high volume low value packets business, and the specific project was around improving our quality. You know the customers have really come to expect very good quality from Royal Mail and we intend to push the bar higher.”
